Ethnic Studies...

Ethnic Studies, from my current understanding is the study of different individuals and group values among different discourse communities. It is a to understand and to be more inform in regards of the varieties of ethic groups. The understanding of Ethnic Studies may differ or have similarities among different academic departments because they have different vantage points of  “ethnic” because of their respected disciplines.  Also, the different academic such as Sociology, Anthropology, or Political Science may be bias at time only focus on just one or two ethnic group; based upon the academic disciplines they may focus on different ethnic groups that may or may not correlate with other groups. I believe that Ethnic Studies was developed as a discipline because we need to better understand other Ethnics and values. When we have a better understanding of other groups, it may help avoid misunderstanding/hate and allow for more acceptances to form a unity rather than a division. Ethnic Study is unique because it brings a variety of different ways of thinking and concepts from different cultures; with so many new perspectives from different ethnic groups it helps us broaden our knowledge of what is outside our discourse communities. In my opinion, I believe that everyone may benefit from Ethnic Studies courses; I think don’t that there are any particular groups that would benefit more than others, because everyone are on equal grounds when it comes to trying to understand/learn about different groups.
